Thomas of Marga

THOMAS OF MARGA. - Nestorian bishop and writer, b. at Beit Sarōnajé.

He became a monk in the monastery of Beit 'Abè and became secretary of the patriarch Abraham II, who consecrated him around 850 as bishop of Marga and then metropolitan of Beit Marga. He wrote a history of the monastery of Beit 'Abè under the title History of the Superiors, which provides valuable information on monastic life and on ecclesiastical events, including on the Nestorian missions.
