It was erected on 11 June 1932 by the apostolic constitution Christo pastorum principi. It comprises the districts of Tiruvalla, Niranam, Moovattupuzha and Kumamkulam.
Over an area of 16,068 sq. km., it has 1,997,000 inhabitants, of whom 15,235 are Catholics. It has 109 churches, 69 parishes served by 56 secular priests, 15 religious priests, with 4 male and 4 female congregations.
