TRICHUR. - An episcopal see of the Syro-Malabarese in India.
A suffragan of Ernakulam, it was erected by the apostolic constitution Romani Pontifices of 21 December 1923 (previously, since 1887, an apostolic vicariate). In 1939 it had 393 churches, 161 parishes, 201 priests, and 253,903 faithful; the total population was 1,127,553.
