VALENTINO, POPE. – In August 827, the bishops, the nobility, and the people chose the archdeacon V., born in the region of Via Lata, who died in September 827, as pontiff.
Installed in the Lateran Basilica, he was consecrated at St Peter’s. The Liber Pontificalis celebrates the virtues that won him the affection of the Romans. Indeed, he was distinguished by his affability, learning, and extraordinary memory. Unfortunately, a Pope so worthy reigned for only 40 days, or barely a month, according to the Annales known as those of Eginhard. Jaffé cites no letter issued by his Chancery.
