EXPIATORY VICTIMS OF THE SACRAMENTED JESUS. — Founded in Naples on 16 July 1878 by Sister Maria Cristina Brando of the Immaculate (b. in Naples on 3 May 1856, d. there on 26 Jan. 1906).
Their purpose is the education of young women in schools, orphanages, and reformatories. They received the decree of praise and temporary approval of their Constitutions on 7 July 1903, and definitive approval on 15 March 1911. The sisters number 115 today, with 11 houses all in southern Italy (Arch. of the Sacred Congregation of Religious, N. 22).
