ACKERMANN CHOQUET, LOUISE-VICTORINE. - French poetess, born in Paris in 1813, died in Nice in 1870.
Her works, the principal among them being the Contes en vers (1855), Premières poésies (1873), Poésies philosophiques (1874), and Pensées d'une solitaire (1883), mediocre from an artistic point of view, are interwoven with philosophical reflections inspired by an atheistic and pessimistic conception of life. Under the guidance of her father, an ardent Voltairean, her education was formed within the sphere of Enlightenment philosophy. After certain family misfortunes, which affected her deeply, she sought to reinforce her ideas through the study of the rationalists, and especially of Kant and Schopenhauer. From a religious point of view, her writings reveal the influence of rationalism and show little knowledge of Christian theology and philosophy.
