ADALBERO (ADALBERT), bishop of WÜRZBURG. - Born c. 1010, died at Lambach on 6 Oct. 1090. He studied in Paris, and on 30 June 1045 succeeded his uncle on the episcopal see of Würzburg, which sided with the emperor; he was able to return there only after the battle of Pleichfeld, in which the imperial forces were defeated. But soon afterwards Henry IV took possession of Würzburg, and A. was obliged to take refuge in the abbey of Lambach, where he spent the rest of his life.
