ADORERS OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS OF MONTMARTRE. - They were founded by Adèle Garnier at the basilica of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre in Paris, on the site where, before the French Revolution, stood an abbey of Benedictine nuns. The institute was canonically erected on 4 March 1898 by Cardinal Richard. The sisters follow the rule of St. Benedict, and their purpose is the worship of the Sacred Heart. Expelled in 1901, they took refuge in England. They were approved by the Holy See in 1930 and today number about 100, in 6 houses. Silverio Mattei
ADORATRICES of the Most Blessed Sacrament. - A religious institute founded at Córdoba in Argentina in 1885 by some pious ladies under the direction of Bishop Giovanni C. Tissera, to make reparation for the offenses committed against Jesus in the Eucharistic Sacrament. The sisters devote themselves to the instruction and education of youth in colleges and schools.
They were approved by the Holy See in 1896 and number more than 200 in 10 houses. Silverio Mattei
ADORATRICES of the Most Blessed Sacrament. - The Congregation was founded at Rivolta d'Adda by the priest Francesco Spinelli following a split caused by a financial collapse in the Institute of the Sacramentine Sisters, which had arisen at Bergamo in 1881 through the work of Geltrude Comensoli, encouraged by Spinelli himself. The sisters have as their aim the adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the education and instruction of young women and the care of the sick. The Institute has the approval of the Holy See and today numbers more than 1000 sisters in 120 houses.

ADORATRICES SLAVES of the Most Blessed Sacrament and of Charity. - They were founded at Madrid by St. Mary Michael of the Most Blessed Sacrament (v.) in 1845 for the re-education of fallen young women and the preservation of those in danger. They also have free trade schools. Approved by the Holy See in 1866, they today number more than 1500 in 60 houses in Spain, Italy, South America and Morocco. In their chapels the Most Blessed Sacrament is exposed continuously.
