AGAZZI, ROSA. - Educationist and educator, b. at Volongo (Cremona) on 26 March 1866. In 1882 Pietro Pasquali (v.), director of the commercial schools of Brescia, entrusted her with the direction of the nursery school of Mompiano: this first experiment in Italy with the active method (v. ACTIVISM) soon established itself, and thus arose numerous "A. nursery schools," characterized by a bright, sunny, hygienic, orderly and hospitable environment, in which the children feel as if they were in a family, amid the discreet interventions, timely corrections and affectionate encouragements of the teacher. In her work A. always had the collaboration of her sister Carolina.

Among A.'s writings, mention should be made of: La lingua parlata (1898); L'abbicci del canto educativo (1908); Come intendo il museo didattico nella educazione dell'infanzia e della fanciullezza (1922); Guida per l'educazione dell'infanzia (1932).
