AGAZZI, ROSA. - Pedagogue and educator, born at Volongo (Cremona) on 26 March 1866. In 1882 PASQUA (v.), director of the commercial schools of Brescia, entrusted her with the direction of the kindergarten at Mompiano: this first experiment in Italy with the

active method (v. ATTIVISMO) soon became established, and thus numerous “A. kindergartens” arose, distinguished by their bright, sunny, hygienic, orderly, welcoming environment, in which children feel as though they were in a family, amid the discreet interventions, appropriate corrections, and affectionate encouragements of the teacher. A. always had her sister Carolina associated with her work.
