ALAN OF LYNN. - English Carmelite, originally from Kings-Lynn (county of Norfolk), d. at Lynn in 1420. Having graduated from the University of Cambridge, he taught Sacred Scripture and theology in the colleges of his Order with such learning that he was esteemed one of the greatest scholars in England. He was among those who fought with the greatest zeal against the errors of Wycliffe. His numerous works (over 100) reveal a profound knowledge of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church. Among these we may mention: *De vario S. Scripturae sensu; Elucidarium Scripturae; Elucidationes Aristotelis; Moralia bibliorum*.
