ALEANDRI, IRENEO. - Architect, b. at Sanseverino Marche in 1795, d. at Macerata in 1885. A pupil of the Roman Academy of St. Luke, he varied with elegance the neoclassical forms learned from Stern and from G. Camporesi. He was architect to the bishop of Osimo, Cardinal Benvenuti, and pontifical engineer for the province of Spoleto. He is known for his theatres (Spoleto, Sanseverino, Ascoli, etc.), for the town hall of Foligno, and above all for the monumental and daring bridge of Ariccia. His most appreciated work is the Sferisterio of Macerata (1821). - See Pl. LX.
