ALIOTTI, GIROLAMO. — Benedictine writer, born in Arezzo in 1412, died in 1480. Having entered the monastery of St. Flora (1430), in 1437 he became prior of St. Cecilia in Foiano. In 1440 he went to France in the retinue of the papal legate Cardinal Zabarella. He was abbot of St. Mary in Mamma (1442) and finally (1446) of the abbey of St. Flora, whose fortunes he revived by uniting it with the Congregation of St. Justina in Padua.
G. M. Scarmalli published his works under the title: *Hieronymi Aliotti Aretini Ordinis sancti Benedicti Abbati Monasterii SS. Florae et Lucillae epistolae et opuscula*, 2 vols., Arezzo 1769. The letters reflect the political and religious life of the time. The principal short works are ascetical in character: *De optimo vivendi genere deligendo*; *De monachis erudendis*; *De felici statu religionis monasticae*; *Contra Religiosos studium improbantes*; *De futuro statu Ecclesiae*.
