ALBERTINI, FRANCESCO. - Jesuit theologian, b. at Catanzaro on 1 Nov. 1552, d. at Naples on 14 July 1619. At the age of 26, having left the abbey of St. Leonardo, of which he was the titular, he entered the Society. At Naples he first taught philosophy, then theology.
He wrote: Explicatio I et II posteriorum analyticorum (Venice 1606), Corollaria seu quaestiones theologicae, in 2 vols., of which the 1st (Naples 1606) contains Corollaria deducta ex principiis philosophicis complexis praecipue in primam et tertiam partem Summae s. Thomae; the 2nd (Lyons 1616) treats De Trinitate, Incarnatione Verbi et Eucharistia. The two volumes (republished together in one folio, Lyons 1629) were dedicated to Card. Bellarmine.
He did much to spread devotion to the guardian angel. His Trattato dell'Angelo custode was very widely circulated (three editions as early as its first year, 1612: Naples, Rome, Brescia), translated into French and Latin as early as 1613. Posthumous is the Apparatus angelicus cum diurnali aureo Angeli tutelaris (Cologne 1625).
Although not published under his name, there belong to A. an oration for the Jesuit Pierr'Antonio Spinelli and a Panegirico sopra l'umiltà, pazienza e carità di s. Francesco di Paola, (Naples 1617).
