ALBERTINI, FRANCESCO. - Jesuit theologian, b. at Catanzaro on 1 Nov. 1552, d. at Napoli on 14 July 1619. At the age of twenty-six, having relinquished the abbey of S. Leonardo, of which he was titular, he entered the Society. At Napoli he taught first philosophy and then theology.
He wrote: Explicatio I et II posteriorum analyticorum (Venezia 1606), Corollaria seu quaestiones theologicae, in 2 vols., of which the 1st (Napoli 1606) contains Corollaria deducta ex principiis philosophicis complexis praecipue in primam et tertiam partem Summae s. Thomae; the 2nd (Lione 1616) treats De Trinitate, Incarnatione Verbi et Eucharistia. The two volumes (republished in one folio volume, Lione 1629) were dedicated to Card. Bellarmino.
He greatly promoted devotion to the guardian Angel. His Trattato dell'Angelo custode was very widely circulated (three editions in the very first year, 1612: Napoli, Roma, Brescia), translated as early as 1613 into French and Latin. Published posthumously was the Apparatus angelicus cum diurnali aureo Angeli tutelaris (Colonia 1625).
Although not published under his name, an oration for the Jesuit Pierr'Antonio Spinelli and a Panegirico sopra l'umiltà, pazienza e carità di s. Francesco di Paola, (Napoli 1617), are by A.
