FRANCESCO ALBERTINI. — Jesuit theologian, born at Catanzaro on 1 November 1552, died at Naples on 14 July 1619. At the age of 26, having left the abbacy of S. Leonardo of which he was titular, he entered the Society of Jesus. In Naples he first taught philosophy, then theology.
He wrote: *Explicatio I et II posteriorum analyticorum* (Venice 1606); *Corollaria seu quaestiones theologicae*, in 2 vols., of which the first (Naples 1606) contains *Corollaria deducta ex principiis philosophicis complexis praecipue in primam et tertiam partem Summae s. Thomae*; the second (Lyons 1616) treats *De Trinitate, Incarnatione Verbi et Euchariata*. The two volumes (reprinted together in-fol., Lyons 1629) were dedicated to Cardinal Bellarmine.
He greatly promoted devotion to the Guardian Angel. His *Trattato dell'Angelo custode* was widely circulated (three editions in its first year alone, 1612: Naples, Rome, Brescia), and was translated into French and Latin as early as 1613. Posthumous is the *Apparatus angelicus cum diurnali aureo Angeli tuleraris* (Cologne 1625).
Although not published under his name, there survive an oration for the Jesuit Pietr'Antonio Spinelli and a *Panegirico sopra l'umiltà, pazienza e carità di s. Francesco di Paola* (Naples 1617).
