UNIVERSAL PRIESTLY ALLIANCE OF THE FRIENDS OF THE SACRED HEART. - An association owing to the inspiration of Mother Louise-Margaret Claret de la Touche, who, as can be gathered from her diary, felt herself called from 1902 to intensify devotion to the Sacred Heart among priests.
The A. S. received its definitive approval and its practical implementation in Italy through the work of Msgr. Matteo Filipello, bishop of Ivrea, who formed its first diocesan group, which for now also serves as the central direction of the institution. The purpose of the A. is to unite the Catholic priests of the whole world in the study and imitation of the Sacred Heart, Deus charitas est, "in order to live the doctrine of infinite Love and to make it known and lived by the souls entrusted to them," so as to bring about as far as possible the sint unum of the Divine Master. All priests and all associations of the clergy already created and yet to be created may be part of the A., provided they intend to inspire their activity, even if not directly spiritual, with the spirit of the association.
