ALLETZ, PONS-AUGUSTIN. - French Oratorian, later, having left the Congregation, a lawyer; b. at Montpellier in 1703, d. at Paris in 1785. An indefatigable compiler, he wrote on various subjects, but especially on ecclesiastical sciences, leaving numerous published works, some of them anonymous.
Several of these can still be useful today; worthy of mention are: *Dictionnaire théologique portatif* (Paris 1756); *Dictionnaire portatif des Conciles* (Paris 1578 and 1764); the 1822 edition by the Abbé Filsjean, which added a historical and critical analysis of the national councils held in 1797 and 1801 and of the council of 1811, is on the Index (*decr. 11 Apr. 1850 donec corrigatur*); *Principes fondamentaux de la religion* (Paris 1760); *Synopsis Doctrinae sacrae* (Paris 1763); *Tableau de la doctrine des Pères*, 2 vols. (Lyon-Paris 1785); *Abrégé de la morale chrétienne* (new ed., Paris 1820); *Selectae e Novo Testamento Historia* (new ed., Paris 1824).
