ALLUT, JEAN. - One of the Calvinist rebels of the Cévennes known as Camisards, who distinguished themselves in the 18th century for their apocalyptic fervor. The subject was properly named Elie Marion and bore the nickname "Eclaireur" [Scout] on account of his strange writings, in which the idea of divine light destined to dispel the darkness of humanity predominates. until 1706, when he submitted and retired to Geneva. He then went to Germany, from where he was expelled and took refuge in England, always distrusted by the religious authorities, who finally condemned him.
