ALMA ROMA

ALMA ROMA. – Monthly periodical published in Rome from January 1913 to October 1942, at the Vatican printing press. It had been preceded by another similar journal, in Latin, Vox Urbis (v.), and its director until his death, which also marked the end of its publication, was Giuseppe Fornari, a lay official of the Roman Curia (d. 18 September 1942). The periodical, which bore the subtitle Latinitatis praeconium, was written entirely in Latin, with the aim of fostering the cultivation and dissemination of the language of Rome (it bore the significant motto: «quidquid non possidet armis religione tenet»). The subjects treated were highly varied, and contemporary life and events also occupied a substantial place; there were numerous contributions of poetry. The finest contemporary ecclesiastical Latinists, Italian and from other countries, collaborated with Fornari.
