ANASTASIO of TESSALONICA. — Successor of Rufus, after 431, in the metropolitan see of Thessalonica, in 435 Pope Sixtus III renewed his powers over eastern Illyria, as vicar of the Roman see. The same was later done in 444 by St Leo the Great, who also had occasion to address A. on other matters. Represented by his suffragan of Heraclea, Quintilius, at the Council of Chalcedon in 451, he seems to have died in September of that same year.
