**ANASTASIUS** of THESSALONICA. - Successor of Rufus, after 431, in the see of Thessalonica; in 435 Pope Sixtus III renewed his powers over Eastern Illyricum as vicar of the Roman See. St. Leo the Great did the same later, in 444, and on other occasions had occasion to address Anastasius. Represented at the Council of Chalcedon in 451 by his suffragan bishop of Heraclea, Quintillus, he seems to have died in September of the same year.
