ANNALES DE LA SAINTE-ENFANCE. - A bimonthly periodical, official organ of the Work of the Holy Childhood (v.), begun in Paris in 1846. Along with the annual report and communications from the central council, it published correspondence on the development of the Work in Europe and the East, and abundant reports from the missions; from 1887 it included illustrations. Although it may seem modeled on the Annales de l'Association de la Propagation de la Foi with adaptations required by the character of the Work, it is in fact an independent compilation. Editions more or less connected with the original French version soon spread into almost all European languages. The German edition from Aachen contains original material. The Italian edition, begun in 1853 in Genoa under the title Annali dell'Opera della Santa Infanzia, presented itself as a translation from the French but had its own correspondence from Italy; from 1924 it continued under the title Santa Infanzia.
