ANSHELM, VALERIS. – Chronicler, born in Rottweil in Württemberg, died in Bern in 1546. In 1504 he settled in Bern, where he devoted himself to teaching. He then went to Rottweil, but soon had to flee that city because of the persecutions against Protestants and take refuge, around 1528, once again in Bern. He was among the first to embrace the Swiss Protestant Reformation and was in direct contact with Zwingli himself. He wrote the Chronicle of Bern, which extends from the earliest times to his own era.
