ANSUINO da FORLÌ. – Painter, he first appears in Padua as a collaborator (1434–37) of Fra Filippo Lippi in the Podestà’s chapel, now destroyed. He later executed the frescoes in the Ovetari Chapel (destroyed in 1944): The Preaching of St. Christopher; Christopher Leaving the King; The Saint in the Service of the Devil. A.’s painting retained Tuscan charac-
teristics; and he therefore occupies a singular place in the Paduan school, as a precursor, OPPIZZONI CARLO (v.), of Andrea Mantegna.
