ANTONIOTTI, Amedeo. - Ascetic writer, b. at Biella in 1634, d. in 1712. Having become a Barnabite in 1654, he promoted Christian piety through his example, his preaching, and his writings.
He is the author of notable ascetical works: *Orologio sacro della passione* (Sacred Clock of the Passion, Livorno 1673); *Novena sacra nell'aspetazione del Parto di Maria* (Sacred Novena in Expectation of the Birth of Mary, Lucca 1692); *Il simbolo della fede ad una vera divota religiosa dottrinalmente e moralmente spiegato*, etc. (The Symbol of Faith Explained Doctrinally and Morally to a True Devout Religious, Milan 1692). This last is his principal work. Originally dedicated to religious women, after improvement he supervised three further editions under the title: *Il simbolo della cattolica fede moralmente spiegato ad ogni cristiano*, etc. (The Symbol of the Catholic Faith Morally Explained to Every Christian, Palestrina 1708). Of this work he separately published a part for the novices he directed at Zagarolo: *Trattato della presenza di Dio, ossia istruzione e regola per instradare l'anima alla contemplazione acquisita, e mediante questa disporsi ad essere favoriti dal Signore della soprannaturale contemplazione* (Treatise on the Presence of God, or Instruction and Rule for Guiding the Soul to Acquired Contemplation, and Through This to be Favored by the Lord with the Supernatural Contemplation, Palestrina 1708).
