ARCAMONE (Archemone), Ignazio. — Jesuit missionary, b. in Bari c. 1615, d. at Raccolti 30 Apr. 1683. He entered the novitiate in Naples in 1631, departed for the East Indies in 1644, and labored for more than twenty years on the peninsula of Salsette.
He composed in the Konkani language a treatise on Purgatory (1663) and a series of explanations on the Sunday Gospels for the entire year (1664). Remaining in manuscript were a De Salsetana peninsula commentarius (Rome, Biblioteca Nazionale) and an impropriately titled Anna indica, sive pro concania et decania linguae (grammar and vocabulary; at the Biblioteca Nacional in Lisbon).
