ARCANGELO OF LYON (Michel Degranges or Desgrange). - Capuchin friar, born in Lyon in 1736, died in 1822. At the age of fifteen he embraced the religious state. In 1789, for having dared to inveigh from the pulpit against the Estates General, he had to flee from his native city and withdraw to the convent of Sion (Switzerland). Having returned to his homeland, he devoted himself entirely to the apostolate and to the restoration of his Order. He left valuable writings, among which the posthumous two-volume work deserves to be remembered: Dissertations philosophiques, historiques et théologiques sur la religion catholique (Lyon 1836).
