ANDREA di NEUFCHÂTEAU (*de Novo Castro*). - Franciscan Scotist of the 14th century, born in France at Neufchâteau (Vosges), whom some have confused with Newcastle (England) and with Castronuovo (Italy). He served as minister of his province of Lorraine and taught theology with such skill that he earned the honorary title of “Doctor ingeniosissimus.” In an as yet unpublished treatise, *De conceptione B. Mariae*, he upholds the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin. His principal work: *Commentar. in Irm. Sententiarum* (Paris 1514).
