HISTORICAL FRANCISCAN ARCHIVE. - A quarterly periodical for Franciscan history, begun in 1908 by the College of St. Bonaventure in Quaracchi near Florence (which, founded in 1878 to publish the critical edition of the works of St. Bonaventure, later became the center of the philological and historical activity of the Order of Friars Minor). Its publication was decided by the minister general Fr. Dionisio Schuler, on the occasion of the seventh centenary of the origin of the Order. Its first director, for a few months, was Fr. Girolamo Golubovich (v.), who was succeeded in May 1908 by the Lorraine-born Fr. Michele Bihl, several times entrusted with the office (from 1908 to 1915, from 1920 to 1930, from 1933 to the present). Its content embraces critical discussions, editions of unpublished or rare Franciscan documents (chronicles, lives, necrologies, bulls, etc.), descriptions of codices, bibliography, abstracts of other periodicals, and Franciscan literary chronicle. The method of the publication is severely scientific.
