ARCHIVUM FRANCISCANUM HISTORICUM. - Quarterly periodical for Franciscan history, begun in 1908 by the College of S. Bonaventura at Quaracchi near Florence (which, founded in 1878 to publish the critical edition of the works of S. Bonaventura, subsequently became the centre of the philological and historical activity of the Order of Friars Minor). Its publication was decided upon by the minister general, Fr Dionisio Schuler, on the occasion of the seventh centenary of the origin of the Order. Its first editor, for a few months, GOLUBOVICH, GIROLAMO (v.); he was succeeded in May 1908 by the Lorraine-born Fr Michele Bihl, repeatedly entrusted with the office (from 1908 to 1915, from 1920 to 1930, and from 1933 to the present day). Its contents include critical discussions, editions of unpublished or rare Franciscan documents (chronicles, lives, necrologies, bulls, etc.), descriptions of manuscripts, bibliography, surveys of other periodicals, and Franciscan literary chronicle. The method of publication is rigorously scientific.
