ARMANIA Y FONT, FRANCISCO. – Spanish Augustinian, born on 3 June 1718 at Villanueva y Geltrú (Barcelona), died at Tarragona on 4 May 1803. He was master of novices for 25 years, bishop of Lugo in 1768, and archbishop of Tarragona in 1785.
A distinguished preacher, he opposed the Jesuits on the doctrine of probabilism and was accused of tending toward Jansenism and the Enlightenment. He promoted many charitable institutions. Particularly important and well known are his Lettere pastorali sull'infallibile verità della religione cristiana (Madrid 1783), and his Sermoni (Tarragona 1796).
