BALDINOTTI, GIULIANO. — Missionary, born in Pistoia in 1591, entered the Society of Jesus in Rome in 1609, and departed for the Far East in 1621. He was the first Jesuit to visit Tonkin (March–August 1616), where he had been sent to prepare the mission, which began the same year under Father Alessandro de Rhodes. His *Relazione del Viaggio del Tonchino* (Macao, 12 Nov. 1626) was printed in the *Lettere dell’Epifania* for the year 1626... and of China for the year 1625 (Rome 1629), pp. 121–33, and in other similar collections. He was about to depart for Japan when he died in Macao in 1631.
