ANTONIO DE BALINGHEM. — Ascetical writer, born at Saint-Omer on 25 June 1571, died at Lille on 28 January 1630. A Jesuit from 1588, after his early studies, which he pursued in Italy, he worked in Belgium and northern France. He translated into French works by Fathers Cepari, La Puente, and Ribadeneira; composed many treatises of a predominantly practical character, often in dialogue form, and also left a biblical repertory for preachers, which was reprinted and imitated many times.
