BALINGHEM, ANTOINE de. – Ascetical author, born in Saint-Omer on 25 June 1571, died in Lille on 28 January 1630. A Jesuit from 1588, after his initial studies, undertaken in Italy, he was active in Belgium and northern France. He translated into French works by Frs. Cepari, La Puente, and Ribadeneira; he composed many treatises of a predominantly practical character, often in dialogued form, and also left a biblical repertory for preachers, reprinted or imitated several times.
