Bangha, Adalberto (Béla)

BANGHA, ADALBERTO (BÉLA). - Hungarian Jesuit, b. at Nyitra in 1880, entered the Society in 1895, d. at Budapest on 28 April 1940. He acquired great fame as a sacred orator and a prolific writer on religious, scientific and social subjects.

Among his merits, mention should be made of the organization of Catholic Action in Hungary, the establishment of an office of the Catholic press, with the founding of a daily newspaper and of the review Magyar Kultura, and the publication of an encyclopedia, Katolikus Lexikon (4 vols., Budapest 1931-33). From 1924 to 1926 he resided in Rome as secretary general of the Marian Congregations. Of his major works, Naturale e soprannaturale nell'epoca presente (Turin 1939) was translated into Italian.
