BANGHA, ADALBERTO (BÉLA). — Hungarian Jesuit, born in Nyitra in 1880, entered the Society in 1895, died in Budapest on 28 April 1940. He acquired great fame as a sacred orator and prolific writer on religious, scientific, and social subjects.
Among his merits, mention should be made of the organization of Catholic Action in Hungary, the establishment of a Catholic press office, with the founding of a daily newspaper and the journal Magyar Kultura, and the publication of an encyclopedia, Katolikus Lexikon (4 vols., Budapest 1931–33). From 1924 to 1926 he was in Rome as secretary general of the Marian Congregations. Of his major works, the following was translated into Italian: Naturale e soprannaturale nell'epoca presente (Turin 1939).
