Barra do Rio Grande, Diocese of

BARRA DO RIO GRANDE, DIOCESE of. — In Brazil, State of Bahia, erected as a diocese on 20 October 1913 with 19 parishes of the archdiocese of S. Salvatore di Bahia, of which it was made a suffragan. The cathedral is dedicated to s. Francesco d'Assisi, patron of the diocese. There are approximately 300,000 Catholics, divided among 20 parishes.
