BARRA DO RIO GRANDE, DIOCESE OF

In Brazil, in the State of Bahia, erected as a diocese on 20 October 1913 with 19 parishes from the archdiocese of S. Salvatore of Bahia, of which it became a suffragan see. The cathedral is dedicated to St Francis of Assisi, patron of the diocese. There are about 300,000 Catholics, divided into 20 parishes.
