BONFIM, DIOCESE OF. — In the State of Bahia (Brazil). Erected on 6 Apr. 1933 by the bull *Adaptus Christi fidelium regimini*. It borders to the north with the dioceses of Barra, Pesqueira and Petrolina; to the south with those of Bahia and Caetete; to the east with those of Bahia, Aracaju and Penedo.

It has an area of 125,127 sq. km. and a population of 330,000 inhabitants, of whom 325,500 are Catholics. It comprises 23 parishes administered by 14 diocesan priests and regular clergy (Franciscans and Cistercians). The Marist Brothers run the high school "Sacred Heart of Jesus"; the Sacramentine Sisters and the Franciscan Sisters have a boarding school and a day school. The diocese is a suffragan of S. Salvatore of Bahia.
