BONFIM, Diocese of. - In the State of Bahia (Brazil). Erected on 6 April 1933 by the bull Adaptus Christi fidelium regimini. It borders to the north with the dioceses of Barra, Pesqueira and Petrolina; to the south with those of Bahia and Caetete; to the east with those of Bahia, Arcajú and Penedo.

It has an area of 125,127 sq km and a population of 330,000 inhabitants, of whom 325,500 are Catholics. It has 23 parishes directed by 14 diocesan priests and by religious (Franciscans and Cistercians). The Marist Brothers direct the "Sacred Heart of Jesus" secondary school; the Sacramentine sisters and the Franciscan sisters have a boarding school and a day school. The diocese is a suffragan of São Salvador da Bahia.
