BONFIM, DIOCESI di. — In the State of Bahia (Brazil). Erected on 6 April 1933 by the bull Adaptus Christi fidelium regimini. It borders to the north on the dioceses of Barra, Pesqueira, and Petrolina; to the south on those of Bahia and Caetete; and to the east on those of Bahia, Arcajú, and Penedo.
It has an area of 125,127 sq. km. and a population of 330,000 inhabitants, of whom 325,500 are Catholics. It comprises 23 parishes directed by 14 diocesan priests and religious (Franciscans and Cistercians). The Marist Brothers direct the « S. Cuore di Gesù » secondary school; the Sacramentine and Franciscan Sisters have a boarding school and a day school. The diocese is suffragan to S. Salvatore della Bahia.
