BASTI. - Diocese of Roman, Visigothic, and Mozarabic Spain, today Baza, civil province of Granada. The first known bishop, Eustichiano, attended the Council of Illiberis (Elvira, 300-303). The last, Giovanni, was alive in 862. After the city was reconquered (1489), Innocent VIII granted permission to restore the diocese, but Cardinal P. González de Mendoza, who administered it until 21 May 1492, established only a collegiate church there, subjecting it to Granada. It later underwent a Guadix (v.). Today it is an archpriestry.
