BARTOLOMEO di GIOVANNI. - Painter, whose personality was reconstructed by Berenson, who called him an “alunno di Domenico” because of his collaboration with Domenico Ghirlandaio in Florence. The artist’s name, moreover, had already been made known through documents published by Bruscoli. A more complete definition of B. was provided by de Francovich. B. collaborated with Ghirlandaio on the Adorazione dei Magi at the hospital of the Innocenti (he executed seven scenes of the predella, dated 1488), and, it seems, at S. Maria Novella (1488–90). Also attributed to B. are the Natività and the Adorazione dei Magi (1493) in the Hall of the Mysteries of the Borgia Apartment in the Vatican. He was also influenced by Botticelli and Filippino Lippi.
