BARTOLOMEO di Giovanni. — Painter whose personality was reconstructed by Berenson, who called him “alunno di Domenico” [‘pupil of Domenico’] on account of his collaboration with Domenico Ghirlandaio in Florence. The artist’s name had already been brought to light by documents published by Bruscoli. A fuller definition of B. was later provided by de Francovich. B. collaborated with Ghirlandaio on the Adoration of the Magi in the hospital of the Innocents (he executed seven scenes of the predella, dated 1488), and, it seems, at Santa Maria Novella (1488–90). To B. are also attributed the Nativity and the Adoration of the Magi (1493) in the Sala dei Misteri of the Borgia apartment in the Vatican. He was also influenced by Botticelli and Filippino Lippi.
