BASAITI, MARCO. - Painter, active in Venezia during the first decades of the sixteenth century. Trained under Alvise Vivarini, he underwent some influence from Giovanni Bellini and Carpaccio, while always remaining a fifteenth-century artist, so much so that the Giorgionesque reform remained almost alien to him. Worth recalling are the Calling of the Sons of Zebedee, his best-known work, and the Agony in the Garden, both in the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venezia; and the Madonna and Saints in the civic museum of Padova.
