BASAITI, MARCO. - Painter, active in Venice in the first decades of the 16th century. Trained on Alvise Vivarini, he was subject to some influence from Giovanni Bellini and Carpaccio, remaining always a quattrocento artist, so much so that the Giorgionesque reform remained almost foreign to him. We recall the Calling of the Sons of Zebedee, his best-known work, and the Agony in the Garden, both in the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice; the Madonna and Saints in the civic museum of Padua.
