BÉBO di BAMBERG. - Disciple of the eleventh century, probably a member of the celebrated «Schola Bambergensis» founded by Emperor s. Enrico. Present at the solemn meeting between Pope Benedetto VIII and Enrico II at Bamberg (1020), he received from the latter the task of transcribing ancient works. In 1021 he sent him the Expositiones S. Hieronymi in Isaiam and the final eight books of the Moralia of s. Gregorio Magno.
To the Expositiones he prefaced a letter, “D' Divo Henrico claritate virtutum clarissimo augustorum B. suus,” in which, among other things, he defends the attributions of the disciples and sets forth the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, subsequently adding two
poems addressed to the emperor. To the Moralia he appended another, shorter letter («Ecce partem Moralium quam petisti, Caesar, tibi carissime tribu»). These letters are found in the codices Bamberg, B IV 18, fols. 1-7, and Bamberg, B V 6, fol. 172b, and are printed in S. Hirsch, Jahrbücher des Deutschen Reiches unter Heinrich II, I (Lipsia 1862), pp. 547-53.
