Bendl, Giovanni Giorgio

BENDL, GIOVANNI GIORGIO. - Sculptor and painter, b. in 1630, d. in Prague on May 25, 1680. Framing his works within the taste of his time, he contributed effectively to giving a Baroque appearance to the decoration of the cities and buildings of his homeland. His principal works: the Infant Jesus for the church of the Holy Cross in Prague (1650), the Marian column for the Old Town (1659), statues of saints for the church of St. Clement in Prague. The two monuments to St. Wenceslas in Prague are quite well known: one with the Saint on a column decorated with vine leaves, and the other
equestrian.
