BENEDICTINE SISTERS OF OUR LADY OF CALVARY. - Reform of the great Benedictine Order carried out by Fr. Joseph of Tremblay, the illustrious Capuchin better known under the name of the "Grey Eminence," with the collaboration of Antoinette d'Orléans, at Poitiers on 15 Oct. 1617. On 22 March 1621 they were approved by Gregory XV. Suppressed with the Revolution, the institute was restored by a brief of 1 Nov. 1828 by Leo XII. The nuns lead a contemplative life not divorced from the active life of teaching and boarding schools. Today they have 10 houses with about 150 religious.
