BERNINI, DOMENICO. – The eldest son of the celebrated artist Gian Lorenzo, he entered the ecclesiastical state and was a canon of S. Maria Maggiore. He flourished during the first twenty-five years of the eighteenth century.
His History of All Heresies, published in four folio volumes in Rome in 1705–17, although it no longer satisfies the requirements of modern criticism, enjoyed wide circulation and may still prove useful; it was abridged by G. Lancisi (Venice, 1737). He also wrote: The Tribunal of the Holy Roman Rota, one folio volume, Rome, 1717, and Historical Memoirs of What the Supreme Pontiffs Accomplished in the Wars against the Turks, Rome, 1685. He was also the author of a Life of St Joseph of Capertino, Rome, 1722.
