BERNINI, DOMENICO. – Eldest son of the renowned artist Gian Lorenzo, he entered the ecclesiastical state and became a canon of S. Maria Maggiore. He flourished in the first half of the 18th century.

His *Istoria di tutte le eresie*, published in 4 volumes in-folio in Rome in 1705–17, though no longer meeting the demands of modern criticism, enjoyed wide circulation and can still render some service; it was abridged by G. Lancisi (Venice 1737). He also wrote: *Il tribunale della S. Ruota Romana*, 1 vol. in-fol., Rome 1717, and *Memorie istoriche di ciò che hanno operato i Sommi Pontifici nelle guerre contro i Turchi*, Rome 1685. A *Life of St Joseph of Cupertino* (Rome 1722) is also attributed to him.
