BIBLICAL. - Quarterly journal of the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome (v.). Announced among the purposes of the new institution from its very beginnings, with the outbreak of the First World War its publication was postponed until the beginning of 1920; from then on it continued to appear regularly without interruptions or notable delays. It is devoted to the scientific treatment of biblical subjects, and each issue consists of four parts: original articles and notes on important questions or particular points; reviews of recent publications; news of the institute and of other events and persons concerned with Holy Scripture; finally, under the title "Elenchus bibliographicus," a complete and systematically ordered list of publications concerning the Bible as they gradually appear. The last two parts are written in Latin; for the first two, modern languages are admitted (Italian, French, Spanish, English and German). The journal enjoys great esteem throughout the world, including among Protestant and Jewish scholars.
In 1947 a general index of the first 25 volumes, 1920-44, was published.
