BIFFI, GIAN ANDREA. — Sculptor, active in Milan, where he died in 1631. A pupil of Brambilla, he adhered to the prevailing Mannerist taste. From 1599 to 1629 he worked in the service of the Duomo workshop, for which he carved the choir reliefs and statues on the exterior; he executed, for the tomb of St Charles Borromeo, models for two statues, the bust of the saint, and the silver reliquary.
