BRAMBILLA, FRANCESCO IL GIOVANE

BRAMBILLA, FRANCESCO THE YOUNGER. - Sculptor, active in the second half of the 16th century, d. in Milan in 1599.

He worked for the building of the Cathedral, supplying, among other things, as the documents show, the models for the carvings of the choir designed by Pellegrini, for the symbols of the Evangelists in the left pulpit and for the Doctors of the Church in the right one. With Pellegrini he represents, in the history of the Milanese temple, that artistic renewal which began after the arrival of Cardinal Borromeo. Milanesi in his commentary on Vasari's Vite, VI (Florence 1878, p. 517) confuses him with B. the Elder (v.) and attributes to him the works of the latter, among them the bracket of Pius IV.
