BRAMBILLA, FRANCESCO il VECCHIO. — Sculptor, d. in Milan in 1570, author of statues and reliefs in the cathedral of that city, among which the marble panels for the organ, executed in collaboration with Martino di Vimercate, the corbel for the statue of Pio IV, judged “stupendous” by Vasari (Milanesi ed., VI, Florence 1878, p. 517), and the model for the Porta towards Compedo should be mentioned. He is often Giovane (v.) because of Milanesi’s inaccurate commentary on the cited passage of Vasari.
