BRAMBILLA, FRANCESCO il VECCHIO. – Sculptor, d. in Milan in 1570, author of statues and reliefs in the cathedral of that city, among which are to be remembered the marble panels for the organ, executed in collaboration with Martino di Vimercate, the bracket for the statue of Pius IV, judged “stupendous” by Vasari (ed. Milanesi, VI, Florence 1878, p. 517), and the model for the Porta verso Compedio. He is often Giovane (v.) due to Milanesi’s inaccurate commentary on the cited passage by Vasari.
