BLAMPIN, THOMAS. — Benedictine of S. Mauro, professor of philosophy and theology, born at Noyon in 1640, died at St-Benoît-sur-Loire on 13 February 1710. Together with other Maurists, he edited the works of s. Agostino, provoking bitter controversy: the Order was accused of favoring Jansenism. The Holy Office condemned those anonymous pamphlets, and Clement XI praised the Order and the work undertaken to restore the texts. B.’s edition is still today the best of the complete works.
