BLAMPIN, THOMAS. - Benedictine of St. Maur, professor of philosophy and theology, b. at Noyon in 1640, d. at St-Benoît-sur-Loire on 13 Feb. 1710. With other Maurists he edited the works of St. Augustine, stirring up bitter controversy: the Order was accused of favoring Jansenism. The Holy Office condemned those anonymous libels and Clement XI praised the Order and the work done in restoring the texts. B.'s edition is still today the best of the complete works.
