BONETTI, ANTONIO MARIA. — Catholic publicist, b. in Bologna in 1849, d. in Rome on 7 Aug. 1896. A volunteer in the papal army from 1868 to 1870, he turned to journalism and teaching, collaborating with *L'Osservatore Romano* and directing the *Rivista Antimassonica* (1894-96), the organ of the *Unione Antimassonica* (1894-1962), which he ardently promoted. Author of literary and polemical works, he proved effective in his writings, partly autobiographical, which recount the events of arms in defense of the Pope’s temporal power (*Da Bagnorea a Mentana*; Rome 1878; *La liberazione di Roma*, Siena 1889; *Venticinque anni di Roma Capitale d'Italia*, 2 vols., Rome 1896).
