BOSTIUS, ARNOLD. - Flemish Carmelite (b. in 1445, d. there on 4 Apr. 1499), descending from the noble family Van Vaerenwijk. One of the most eminent men of his Order for virtue and learning; he was the driving force behind the humanistic movement among Carmelites in the second half of the fifteenth century. Always in contact with the great humanists of that era, he contributed no little through his works to a revival of the study of the history of his Order.
