Botrys (Botrus)

BOTRYS (Botrus). - Today Batrun, a city of Phoenicia, whose bishop Porphyrius subscribed to the Council of Chalcedon (448). Reorganized in the year 1848, it is joined to the other see of Gbaji (Gibailen[sis] et Botryen[sis] Maronitarum); the one and the other, governed by patriarchal vicars, constitute the particular diocese of the Maronite patriarch of Antioch. In 1932 it had 46,984 faithful, 112 priests and 40 parishes.
