BOTRYS (Botrus). — Today Batrun, a city of the Ticinia, whose bishop Porphyrius subscribed to the Council of Chalcedon (448). Reorganized in the year 1848, it was joined to the other of Gibajl (Gibailen[sis] et Botreyen[sis] Maronitarum); both, governed by patriarchal vicars, constitute the particular diocese of the patriarch of Antioch of the Maronites. In 1932 it had 46,984 faithful, 112 priests, and 40 parishes.
