BOTUCATÙ, DIOCESE of. – In Brazil, in the State of São Paulo. Erected on 7 June 1908 with territory taken from the vast diocese of São Paulo, of which it is now a suffragan. Territories of other dioceses were subsequently detached from B., Sorocaba (v.), Cafelandia (v.), ASCESI (v.), Santos (v.). Its boundaries with those of Corocaba were modified in 1925 and 1932. B. now has an area of 17,000 sq km. It has 450,000 inhabitants, of whom 400,000 are Catholics, 34 parishes, 30 diocesan priests, and 39 religious priests.
