BOUCAT, ANTOINE. - Theologian of the Order of Minims, born in the seventeenth century at Bourges and died about 1730. He was general director of the schools of charity in Normandy founded by Fr. Barré. With the Theologia Patrum he established himself as one of the finest theologians of the eighteenth century, having brought together in it the best found in tradition, ecclesiastical documents, and the writings of the most celebrated theologians. Also a contemporary of the Quietist movement, he effectively opposed it in his publications of an ascetical character.
He also wrote Le repos en Dieu (Rouen and Paris 1696); Le vrai repos en Dieu par les travaux de l'âme et la vie intérieure (Paris 1700); Tractatus de legibus iuxta genuinam D. Thomae mentem (s. n. t.); Theologia Patrum dogmatica scholastico-positiva (5 vols. in folio, Paris 1718-26; 20 vols. in 4to, ibid. 1724; Rouen 1725; Venice 1736, 1765).
