BOUCAT, ANTOINE. - Theologian of the Order of Minims, born in the 17th century in Bourges and died around 1730. He was director general of the schools of charity of Normandy under Fr. Birré. With his Theologia Patrum he established himself as one of the best theologians of the 18th century, having concentrated therein the best of tradition, ecclesiastical documents, and the writings of the most celebrated theologians. He was contemporary with the Quietist movement and effectively combated it in his ascetically oriented publications.

He also wrote Le repos en Dieu (Rouen and Paris 1666); Le vrai repos en Dieu par les travaux de l'âme et la vie intérieure (Paris 1700); Tractatus de legibus iuxta genuinam D. Thomae mentem (no date); Theologia Patrum dogmatica scholastico-positiva (5 vols. fol., Paris 1718–26; 20 vols. 4°, ibid. 1724; Rouen 1725; Venice 1736, 1765).
