BOUCAT, ANTOINE. - Theologian of the Order of Minims, b. in the 17th century at Bourges and d. around 1730. He was director general of the charity schools of Normandy of Fr. Barré. With the Theologia Patrum he established himself as one of the best theologians of the 18th century, having concentrated in it the best that was to be found in tradition, in ecclesiastical documents and in the writings of the most celebrated theologians. Also a contemporary of the Quietist movement, he fought it effectively in his publications of an ascetic character.

He also wrote Le repos en Dieu (Rouen and Paris 1696); Le vrai repos en Dieu par les travaux de l'âme et la vie intérieure (Paris 1700); Tractatus de legibus iuxta genuinam D. Thomae mentem (s. n. t.); Theologia Patrum dogmatica scholastico-positiva (5 vols. in-fol., Paris 1718-26; 20 vols. in-4to, ibid. 1724; Rouen 1725; Venice 1736, 1765).
