BOUVIER, PIERRE. - French Jesuit, b. at Chantenay (Brittany) in 1848, d. at Paris in 1925. A preacher esteemed for his profound learning, he was the first to denounce to Rome in 1903, together with Letourneau (q.v.), the modernist aberrations of Loisy.
He contributed various studies to the history of Ignatian asceticism (*Directoire composé par st Ignace*, Paris 1917; *L'interprétation authentique de la méditation fondamentale*, Bourges 1922, etc.); *Règles de la perfection sacerdotale* (Paris 1914; Ital. trans. Turin 1923).
